Stocks on Wall Street fell on Monday, as investors appeared wary at the outset of a week packed with data and central bank meetings.
In midday trading, the Standard & Poor’s 500-stock index fell 0.45 percent, the Dow Jones industrial average was 0.33 percent lower and the Nasdaq was off 0.41 percent.
Investors are looking ahead to Wednesday’s statement from the Federal Reserve for clarity on when the Fed will begin to pare its $85 billion in monthly bond purchases. According to a poll of economists conducted by Reuters on July 22, the Fed is most likely to begin tapering its quantitative easing stimulus in September. Continue reading
